unfortunately this is not a post about the band, but another boring post about.. the fires. but hey at least i actually live next to one. i got a few concerned calls from family and friends, some emails.. some im’s; all asking if we were okay and what was going on with the fires.
on october 21 around 6:30pm joel and i headed out to get some dinner. we both smelled a hint of smoke in the house but it was so mild it was more like smelling your neighbors grill. stepping into the hallway we were convinced “someone is having a bbq!”. we first headed to blockbuster to drop off some videos, then headed towards the freeway for food and noticed a ridiculous amount of, what appeared at the time to be, fog. “what the hell.. that’s a lot of fog!”. Joel promptly rolled his window down to put his hair out his window to see if he could feel the moisture, instead we were immediately overwhelmed by the smell of smoke and warmth forcing joel to quickly pull his hand back in and roll the window up. “that’s not fog.. that’s ash!”
confused by the volume of ash and smoke in the air that wasn’t there just minutes ago, i grabbed my blackberry and started googling “fire southern california”. sure enough listings of wildfires devastating malibu and san diego filled my screen and i passed the news onto joel. “Ahh! There’s tons of fires north and south of us! that must be the cause, remember in 2003 when the riverside fires left us covered in ash and dreary apocalyptic orange skies?”
after picking up food we headed home and ahead of us joel noticed a stretch of flashing lights, “wonder what’s going on there, tons of cops ahead of us.” not thinking anything was amiss in town, we stayed on course for home and pulled into the garage, 30 minutes ago completely untouched by bad air, now rich with the smell of smoke and ash.
we walked into the house and ate our dinner. chatting with friends closer to malibu we all discussed the fire and the smell and ash it was leaving behind. also being next to san diego i figured, maybe that’s why its so heavy here as well, though enough distance from malibu to not get this kind of ash.
i continued to google about the fires and found a link with irivne locals posting comments and sure enough i see “wildfire in irvine burning up portolla by jamboree, northwood residents are being evacuated.” i double checked the date and time and it had been posted just minutes ago. everything made sense now. the intense smoke and ash, the flashing lights, well crap, wildfires in my backyard, 2 miles away from my home a wildfire was raging.
today is the 24th and while the fire was contained by me its still burning. here are some current links and stats (santiago fire only).
manual recording by time/channel. while i cant control it by minutes it gives 5 minute intervals. 10:05pm – 11:00pm achieved.
UPDATE
While refrencing my “Fall Lineup” spreadsheet i made i realized.. 10pm ABC after Grey’s is 6 degrees.. I was really looking forward to this show. How the hell did that one slip? We’ll se if Shark is good enough to take my 10pm slot away from ER.

I know that wordpress has a plugin that helps to filter the comment spam, but I decided to just try out something simpler. You must now register an account on my blog in order to post.
For strangers, I appologize (dont think any read this). To my friends, sorry for the pain in the ass but it was either that or completely disable comments, its not so hard, think of it as typekey for MT!
Also you will begin to notice Password protected posts. If you are interested in the PW, just send me a message on one of my many communicative devices and i’ll let ya know!
Yah yah yah… so its been a while. A few things to note.
Holy shit I have done virtually nothing so far in 2006.
Balls.
so i’ve been horrible at committing to my blog as of late. you ever have soo much to say you don’t know where to start so you just don’t bother? Well thats pretty much my situation. I kept staring at an empty page willing myself to write and i became overwhelmed with thoughts.
so regardless of my 101 reasons why not to post, i’m just going to start from here.
happy belated christmas and new year!!
i hope all of you had a wonderful holiday, i definitely liked mine. i got amazing gifts (ill have to dedicate a post to all my new toys — i swear i will!). i celebrated christmas with joel and his awesome family. we had christmas eve dinner at his father’s, then christmas day at his grandmothers (moms side). every time i have dinner with his family i feel blessed. i think joel has been so lucky to have grown up with the family that he has. I was surprised at the amount of gits joel’s mom and tif got us!
New years was pretty pleasant. We did it small this year.. VERY small. like 3 small. I cooked up a ton of lumpia and i made a delicious oven pot roast. we shimmied on over to sean’s around 7, got there at 8 and spent the nite away drinking good wine, eating good food, and just talking. I don’t get to spend much time with sean much anymore but when we do get to hang out, its always fun to have a serious conversation where people can actually explore their own ideas and just discuss. i like toilet humor just as much as the next person, but now and again its nice to talk your age with peers who don’t have their heads up their asses. We talked till like 7am til we finally drove back home to watch a few episodes of bleach and fall asleep.
i think we had a good start to 2006
thanks for having us over to your cool place sean, and i hope you had a good new years too.
not the band, the weather
i need a mother fucking air conditioner. im tired of keeping my window open. im tired of constant boob sweat. im tired of having to keep my hair up. im tired of sweating like im in hawaii!!
currently browsing the internet for an air conditioner. die!
i am either consumed or absent. hobbies, work, relationships, general interests, they all have had their way with me. i’ve never been much to follow through with things that i feel are non-fulfilling or unsatisfying. Ive also had a hard time partaking in things casually. The lack of dedication makes me feel incomplete.
my love affair with the internet eventually became a committed relationship. friendships, communications, interests, professional endeavors, everything has, in one way or another, evolved around it.
as of right now in my life, there isn’t a single relationship that I have that wasn’t a result of the internet. though regardless of this fact i still spent large amount of my time either socializing online, playing video games online, researching online, sharing my art online, working.. online. i always felt this was satisfying. in fact it opened up new doors, new people, and new opportunities i would have otherwise never come across.
am i thankful? without a doubt, but theres something inside me these days, thats elevated beyond my general comfort with the status quo of my life. i like face time. not everyday, not every moment, but i like face time. not only do i like face time but i like more involving hobbies. i like my hands on hobbies. my art, my car.. more and more am i drifting away from involving irc sessions and long gaming hours. fuck people who have zero effect on my bottom line. thats not to say there are still not a good handful of ppl in those worlds who are a big part of my bottom line.
i think today i am a better me than i have been in as long as i can remember. lets hope i don’t lose focus.
oh yah, i bought an elliptical trainer. yes i use it everyday for about 30min-1hour. I am aiming to use it for about 2 hours a day.
anytime something somewhat eventful happens, i think to myself, “dont forget to blog something simple”. but of course, that never seems to happen. So, lets recap! Yes, I know, I suck, there are no pictures.
Wedding Bells!
Joel and I flew to Arizona to celebrate his first cousin, Hillary’s wedding. Not just Arizona, but Snowflake Arizona. You ever seen the movie, “Fire in the Sky“? Well it took place in a little town called Snowflake, Arizona. Just so happens, Joel’s aunt lives out there. about 3 hours NE of Phoenix AZ.
It was a very cute ceremony, i was the only asian person in existence (so it seemed). I wish the best of luck to Nick and Hillary and hope all their dreams come true.
BBQ Bliss
On April 2, 2005, 940 Hillcrest Street #2 in smelly El Segundo, we had a festive bbq. Those in attendance: Joel, Myself, Bryan, Kien, Chad, Sean, Pip, Maryanne, Cheeto, Diane, Will, Ryan, Erik, Josh, Sam, Dave, Nian, and Mr. Christian Dell. There was a ton of food and drink to go around.
Quite possibly the best part of the evening occurred around 1:30am. Christian introduced us to a game of … pick up the box with your teeth! Everyone has to pick up a box and lift it with their mouth. Only their feet can touch the ground. No hands, no knees, just your feet. We actually got down to the very bottom of the box. That’s right. Just a flat box bottom. In the end, Kien, Erik and Joel (of all people), were able to pick up the bottom piece.
CBA Media Marketing
As most of you know, I am working for a company called CBA Media Marketing. Our California offices are located in Downtown Culver City. I am the Lead Web Producer. I’m working with Erik again, which is delightful. We work under great leadership and a very supportive manager. We have the opportunity to actually utilize our skillsets instead of being limited, cutoff, abused, mistreated, taken advantaged of and ultimately lied to as we had previously experienced.
BTW, if you are reading this, you know who you are. We were the best team you were ever going to have. This is as good as you will ever be. I wish you the best of luck, you taught me a valuable lesson… it was personal, and this is business.
World of Warcraft
We’re finally our own guild. Sam has resurrected the name “The Rabble“. This time the leadership is not a collective of neutral individuals but rather a more exact leadership. I’m in the process of building out our entire CMS which consists of a lot of crap. Unfortunately I haven’t been playing at all because my home internet is fucked up beyond control so instead i work on the CMS when I have time. We’re still on Tichondrius.
Acura Integra GS-R
