wordpress upgrade

Categories: geek, internet » jamie @ 11:22 pm

so i was using nightly builds before 1.5 was released. unfortunately the upgrade has been far from seamless. ive had to completely rework my template into the new system and none of the “update your templates” guidelines were helpful because my setup was a hybrid of the old and new. so ive had to pretty much manually go in and move things around.

my sidebar got jacked up so i had to rework it. hopefully it looks okay across the board. i was completely redoing the css for it, but im getting lazy and tired and about to revert back to the old one and just “quick” fix it till i completely redo it when im not tired.

yah that sounds like a good idea.. hehe

mobile network

Categories: geek, internet » jamie @ 9:58 am

most of you laptop owners have probably experienced having to reset your laptops network settings anytime you change networks. whether it involves setting it to DHCP, or static IP, regardless you spend time doing so. Ultimately for me, i have to change between dhcp and static ip from work and home. I had to do this a lot at my old job, but this was easily solved by only using wireless at work then plugging in at home.

I have wanted a utility for some time now that will manage this for me. I didn’t want a batch file, and i didn’t want some bastardized fix. I wanted something modern and something effective. I like cool software that works. I’m over the console based home brew shit, unless of course its chad or joels home brew.. then its usually something really nice and well done.

I went looking around for a solution and enlisted chad’s expertise. Thanks chad! I actually purchased a product and it is working really well. It is called mobile net switch. It has a very clean and friendly user interface. And I’m a sucker for packaging, but it had the best website and production information and display compared to its competitors.

It has a lot of really useful features and can be quite powerful when utilized. I will probably spend more time messing with it later to see if i got my moneys worth. $32.44 USD.

World of Warcraft

Categories: geek, internet, video games, wow » jamie @ 1:03 pm

so if you’re wondering why i haven’t blogged, you guessed it, World of Warcraft.

i have been playing with the old blood fist gang, sam, james, rob, trent, the patryns kids: justin guthrie, justin goad, eric avilla, etc etc, and a handful of circle noir members. in fact were all guilded together under the cn tag. we are playing on the pacific realm pvp server: tichondrius.

the game is actually really good. the have done a stellar job at streamlining all the major aspects of any mmorpg. where most other mmorpgs have failed in one aspect, i think its safe to say that wow has done a stellar job. in everquest there was no real driven economy. items were traded and were a player commodity and generally the best items required mass numbers to overtake massive zones. although im sure everquest has changed in the past 4 years, but the first few the game lacked in many areas. the everquest quest system was complete bullshit and almost non existent. the everquest crafting system was also equally pointless.

wow reminds me of the same game pace of anarchy online. i actually really enjoyed playing ao. it was probably one of my better game experiences. most aspects of the gain were attainable. i enjoyed the cyberpunk futuristic theme of the game, i enjoyed their mission system and their implant system was the best. i also loved the profession line and the ability to bump stats as you chose per level.

i had been playing final fantasy xi for so long. ffxi was a great game. i miss a lot of the game. i miss the cut scenes, the auction house, the people. however, a big part of ffxi was highly painful because i wasn’t playing with a strong core of players. in any mmorpg without a core or a group to play with, the game itself has to pull its weight. eventually when that subsides you pretty much stick with a game for its people. too many of my good friends were investing in wow so i made the change.

anyhow, just wanted to give a quick update to where ive been lurking. i have so many more things to post about that have been on my mind. ill make a much stronger attempt to take the time and do so.

if you’re looking for a new game, i highly recommend wow. i know eq2 is out, some say its good, most i hear don’t like it. anyhow stop by tichondrius and gimme a shout if you need some help, or if you’re on another server, i hope you’re having as much fun as i am!

no.. that wasnt a typo. the other nite on irc i saw a random url posted. followed with “wtf??? :) ” , the url pretty much says it all so i checked it out.

Cooking With Cum – http://www.cookingwithcum.com

at first i wasnt exactly sure if it was a hoax or not. i looked through the forum, since thats all that existed, and came across the forum rules. the more i read the forum the more i realized, these people are fucking serious. some recipes even showed pictures of the final food product, jizm and all. another guy had a picture of his jizm and asked if the consistency was good to cook with.

i was reading aloud some of the recipe names and its contents to joel and he found it quite amusing himself. some of the posts were funny, others were borderline sketch and far too many were just.. so casual that it was almost creepy.

casual about eating cum in your food? there was even a poll asking people if they have ever served cum in their food to ppl without their knowledge. one lady said yes, she fed it to her step son and he loved it and had no idea. what the hell is wrong with these people. i mean if you wanna put semen in your food and eat it thats one thing, but feeding someone unbeknown to them is just filthy and wrong. it reminds me of the urban legend regarding the lady who ordered Chinese food only to wake up the next morning with a massive rash and sores all over her mouth. when they examined her last consumed meal it was full of 5 different types of semen and unfortunately one of them was infected with an STD.

not that im any kind of aficionado on the culinary aspects of semen.. but i cant see it working well with water and heat.

i guess you can be the judge!

jason complained my blogs are too nerdy. dont worry jason im sure ill start blogging more casual stuff as i slowly become consumed with WoW and have finished building out my entire site.

so after a phone conversation today with a client, we discussed all the problems we were facing with the website and she just finally agreed, fuck os9 users and their browser problems, lets move forward using technology that doesnt suck!

for those of you who arent so fortunate, i pity you, but i guess all lessons are good lessons. i got to revisit how shitty ie5 is and moreover, the problems with mac ie5.

things to consider when developing a website and you need compliance with mac ie5 in os9, and things to consider if you have a mac and for some godforsaken reason, you dont want to upgrade to osx. things to consider when you have to develop for windows ie 5.1 and windows ie 5.5.

  • mac ie 5.0, 5.2.3 does not support flash transparency
  • mac ie 5.0, 5.2.3, win ie 5.5 does not support background layer transparency
  • os9 browser options are limited, there is an old mozilla build, 1.2.1, however due to lack of developer interest and resources it never got beyond that
  • mac ie 5.0, 5.2.3 does not support many forms of javascript and breaks commonly used javascripts, including dreamweavers rollover (specifically the body onload pre cacheing of images)
  • all forms of ie 5.* break the crap out of css2

there was a time when i created many websites to function appropriately in ie5, considering it was the browser of choice in 1999, but since then browsers have come a long way… a long long way, even ie6 itself has vastly improved, regardless of how much you hate it.

in the end, i urge mac users to upgrade to osx and use safari or firefox and avoid using ie5.*. I urge the entire world to upgrade..
