sidekick 3 for me

Categories: gadgets, geek, internet, technology » jamie @ 9:35 am

i have been a sidekick user since the first version. chad and bryan had actually bought them on initial release and after playing with theirs i knew i had to have it. after i got mine i did my best to encourage others to buy it. the phone had so much promise. it was a great geek toy and the potential for development by its users was limitless, or so we thought.

we quickly realized that there just wasn’t going to be any real development for this phone without either signing away your warranty rights or just sitting and waiting forever for any kind of over the air update. however tmobile was really good about replacing the b&w and color versions of the original sidekick as they were prone to hardware malfunction quite frequently.

i have owned a b&w sidekick and upgraded to a color. i gave my b&w to joel who got a free upgrade to color after the b&w broke a few times. that jerk. i had to pay for both! i eventually upgraded to a sidekick 2 and yes, i upgraded to a sidekick 3.

i have investigated a lot of phones through the years. i’ve always wanted something better, something new, something cooler but nothing ever really rose to the occasion. i accepted the fate of the sidekick; it would become a trendy celebrity hip hop toy, and while im sure it was a good move for danger and tmobile it still fucking sucks.

im not a heavy phone user in itself, but i rely heavily on email, aim, and sms (from my phone). I also play the shit out of it (tetris and bust a move). i have one of the original plans that has been grandfathered every time i renew contract. its a 39.99 a month plan for unlimited data, 200 anytime minutes and 1000 weekend minutes. a lot of ppl say “oh those minutes are trash” but as i said before i don’t rely heavily on the phone. however i started to use the phone more and more and occasionally would suffer a .35 penalty on extra minutes which sucked ass. i eventually upgraded and added on unlimited mobile to mobile minutes for 7 bux. one of the major reasons i’ve never left behind the sidekick and/or tmobile was simply because, my plan rules.

here are the specs on the phone. some of the upgrades are a 1.3 mexapixel camera, expandable memory (miniSD), lighter, slightly slimmer frame. mp3 player. improved battery life, bluetooth, usb, added email protocols imap4 (they had pop3), they now offer msn along with aim and yahoo. you can also read the manual online on dangers site.

    jeff buckley

Categories: art, music » jamie @ 6:47 pm

it was a profound experience the first time i heard “last goodbye” by jeff buckley. it was just your average day sometime in 1994 that would change my life forever. to this day his album “grace” remains my favorite album of all time and if i could only keep one album for the rest of my life it would be that one. admittedly there were times where it was hard to make it through the whole album because its so emotionally intoxicating and brings out every ounce of pain into a surreal blanket i curl up in. there have been periods of time i just couldn’t bring myself to listening to it, but when i do i fall in love all over again, enveloped in its heady haunting sound, feeling him completely under my skin. i dont attest to this affecting anyone else the way it does me, but its a damn good album none the less and jeff buckley is truly missed.

he is without a doubt the most important artist and musician that ive ever had the grace to listen to.  he died on may 27, 1997 while taking an evening swim in the mississippi on his way to his studio session to record his next album.  it seems so long ago, but every once in a while i mourn him all over again.

i encourage others to listen to his music, ill gladly share it with you if you cant find it elsewhere.  take the time to read his wikiquotes page, especially the bottom portion full of quotes by other famous musicians.

all flowers in time, bend towards the sun, i know you say that theres no one for but here is one. (listen below)

    p.s. yes i’m obsessed.

    toesies

Categories: girl stuff » jamie @ 6:40 pm

i love pedicures.  i love foot massages.  i like having my toenails painted.  feet are infinately cuter when they are all dolled up.  a while ago i went in for my monthly pedicure and the girl asked me if she could give me a flower on my toe.  i said yes.  she did a really good job and ever since, everytime i get my feet done, regardless of if its a different place or different lady, they always ask me if i want a flower. the latest flower i got is my favorite.  she did a really good job and i liked her style and detail.  she even put on this cute little gem bead for the center of my flower instead of using nail polish.

    rock on toesies.

    massive attack – hollywood bowl

Categories: concerts, music » jamie @ 6:12 pm

in 1994 i fell in love with a song playing on the radio.  it was called “Protection” and it was by a group called “Massive Attack“.  It would become an on going love affair and the first introduction to trip hop and the spark for a long burning flame for a myriad of other artists.

on sunday, september 24, 2006, 7:00pm, i will be attending the massive attack concert at the hollywood bowl in great terrace box seats with joel.

this is what our view will be like.  similar to my view/seats at colplay when i took bryan for his birthday many moons ago.

i’m very excited.  this is the first time im actually seeing them live. i want to thank steve for the sweet ass hookup and sale :)

    brand new pair of shoes

    Categories: car » jamie @ 5:29 pm

okay so its not exactly brand new.  last year at the end of may i ordered rays wheels volk racing te37 16″.  I purchased them through Upgrade Motoring and in the process met a really cool guy named Glenn Kowta.  It would begin an almost year long email exchange! The size, model, fitment and color of the wheels made them a special order straight from rays in japan.  true jdm i guess.  they said it would take about 3 months for them to come in but i felt they were worth the wait.  3 months later and they’re still not in!  they offered me a different model of volk racing white wheels but i declined and said I would continue to wait for my te37’s to arrive.  It would turn out that, they had accidentally placed the order for the other wheels (the ones they offered while i was still waiting for the te37’s).  It would then become another 3 month wait.  A total of 6 months pass by and Glenn informs me “your wheels are here!” with numerous emails and phone exchanges.. it still took me a bit of time to get them as I was soo busy at work, i kept not having the time to arrange shipping.  finally out of the kindness of Glenn’s big heart, he shipped them to me for free because he felt bad about the initial mixup and long wait.  They sat in my living room through most of February.. and March.. and April..  I finally took them to joel’s around May and they continued to sit until… June 10, 2006.

Thanks to the generosity of both joel and gene of jasper performance i was able to get a set of maxxis ma-z1 victra’s. here are some interesting facts about my wheels:

Material is 6061 aircraft grade aluminum. This material is hot forged. 1st forging process is done with pressure of 5,000 kilograms per square centimeter. 2nd forging process is a slow process with 3,500 kilograms per square centimeter. The lip is also forged to 3,500 kilograms per square centimeter. This allows the wheel to have less material than other wheels, but have more strength and durability. The excess material is machined off (to tolerance of 1/100 of a millimeter). Powder coating and clear coating is done by a special proprietary process to ensure long lasting quality and durability.

each wheel is 11.2 lbs each.  for those of you unaware.. that translates into “really fucking light” which further translates into less unsprung weight and that is most definitely a good thing. the car feels lighter and a lot more responsive. yay.

    why i love tv

Categories: tivo, tv & movies » jamie @ 7:33 pm

i just watched tommy gavin (dennis leary) woop the living shit out of his brother jimmy gavin (dean winters) after tommy discovers that jimmy is in a relationship with his estranged wife janet (andrea roth) on Rescue Me.

It was a straight up ass wooping, and he deserved it. i love this show. and this is why i love tv.

june 11 will premiere on HBO, Deadwood (finally!) and Entourage. Showtime is presently playing HUFF but Weeds will start up again shortly.  Hell’s Kitchen, and Saved premieres on june 12th. With all the network fall lineup on hiatus, the summer line up is a warm welcome to my TIVO and night caps. Yes i watch So You Think You Can Dance.

NBC is throwing in some shows, Windfall which will premiere june 8th. It’s a show about what happens to a group of friends after they win a massive lottery jackpot. It’s also throwing in some reality show called Treasure Hunters which is comprised of teams who compete against each other where they have to find locations and solve puzzles and find clues.  NBC actually looks like its coming out with some interesting new shoes for Fall Lineup but we’ll see much later if any of them survive the first week cut.

I’m not sure what the other networks are going with for summer surprises, i’ll have to look later and see if anything seems interesting.  I did see a lot of cool looking shows for Fall tryouts.

Programming TIVO for fall seasons gonna be fun!  Gotta honor the old faithfuls and try to find some new gems.

I miss Six Feet Under :(
