hawaii was great. congratulations to irene and randy on their wedding! the food was really delicious and the reception was extremely joyous! it was wonderful to see christine and james again after so many years and your beautiful son! val, arthur and their daughter too. you guys need to stop having babies and getting married. no matter where we are in life i seem to be so far behind the curve haha :) .

my nephew skyler is the cutest thing in the world. its amazing how much you can love someone so completely when you’ve spent so little time with them. i want to spoil him and give him the world. i wish i didn’t have to miss so much of his childhood. i love him with all my heart.

hawaii beaches rule. california beaches suck. thats all i really have to say about that.

darla my latest niece (my sisters new jack russell puppy girl) is adorable. she is quite possibly the cutest puppy i have ever seen. she’s soft, tiny, light, and when she waddles around all clumsy like, i just want to pick her up and squeeze her and vomit from her utter cuteness!!

i have wonderful pictures but joel accidental left his usb cable to upload the pictures from his camera at my sisters. hopefully she can mail it soon and i can show off all the pictures!

i got to see most all of my immediate family and it was really good to see them. sometimes you just forget that you miss something until you see it again.

it was good to see everyone. and for those of you i didn’t see, you were definitely in my thoughts. though you will never read these, lynn, roxanne, jason, billy, mercy i miss all of you and maybe one day ill see you all again.

for now its back to la, and work. see you all soon!

2 days till hawaii

Categories: family, friends, travel » jamie @ 1:18 pm

2 more days till we’re in hawaii.. 3 more days till Irene’s wedding. its strange to think about now, but i would have never thought, back in the day, that i wouldn’t have been a part of the celebration. i guess i still am, but just as a simple guest.

i wonder who were going to be seated with? other strangers? her new friends i know nothing about? distance and detachment have changed a lot of aspects of my former relationships. i almost feel uncomfortable going.

i am very excited for her, out of everyone in Hawaii she was the only one who was interested in keeping in touch and so we have. i wonder how everyone else is doing.

road rage in southern california

Categories: idiot, rants » jamie @ 8:07 am

i can tolerate most long drives. I commuted between sunnyvale and monterey everyday for 4 months (85 miles each way). People thought I was insane but the truth is, in the same time it took most ppl to move 20 miles in gridlock rush hour traffic i could cover the same ground. I moved against traffic and the drives were fast and pleasant albeit long.

every monday morning i make the trek to the office all the way from fucking irvine. my offices are located in culver city. the commute from my house takes me 10-20 minutes based on traffic. on monday mornings they take anywhere from 1 hour – 2 hours. with no traffic i can do this drive in 36 minutes if im rushing and 40-45 minutes if i drive at a “legal” pace. if i followed the speed limit id never get anywhere at a reasonable time.

the 5 usually moves rapidly. i can get from the 5 to the 91 with relative ease. i can usually move between 80-95 mph the whole way. the 91 to the 605 is hit or miss. if i leave early enough i can miss the mad rush for the 605 merge and make it across pretty quickly. the 605 to the 105? thats just about 2 miles and easy as hell to make. enter the 105.

for some reason, regardless of how wide the 105 is, its the king of nervous breaking, rubbernecking, inconsiderate drivers.

  1. i hate automatics. automatic drivers are notorious nervous breakers, not only do they constantly break without cause, they dash and dive all day long. floor it to go, floor it to stop. This causes so much rubber band traffic its disgusting.
  2. as if the automatic driver habits aren’t bad enough, they like to talk on their cell phones. yes there are studies to prove everything, but here’s one for all you fucking cell phone driving mother fuckers.
  3. California Highway Patrol. Yes they’re doing their job, but i wish there were giant walls to block off pulled over vehicles. you can guarantee that if anyone gets pulled over, all of traffic comes to a standstill. either out of fear that the police will decide to take after their speeding car, or out of basic nosy rubber banding.
  4. Railway stops on the 105. I do not know what’s so goddamn interesting, but at every railway station, the cars come to a nauseating crawl. onlookers either trying to check out the goods to the left or they have to stop and wave hi. whatever the reason, its ridiculous.
  5. Opposite direction accidents. Please stop rubbernecking. I hate you so much.
  6. Foreigners and Women. Look this is not about being racist or sexist. I’m a female asian driver, and the biggest crap driver offenders I know are female and foreign. anytime i get stuck behind a retard they end up being either female or foreign (or someone on a cell phone). Spend more time driving on your off time. take a few driving courses, anything, just get off the roads and get away from me.

its not about speed. If i could move consistently at 20mp across the whole 105 id be happy. but the stop and go traffic blows. when i lived in nor cal, the nervous breaking there was significantly worse, but the traffic down here is so significantly more and the nervous breaking just makes any bearable drive a complete nightmare.

monday mornings, stay clear of me. you can guarantee ill be pissed off and cranky from enduring the drive to test all patience.

yah yah yah, im taking strides to improve my mood. reminding myself there’s nothing i can do to change it so just relax. playing uplifting music, breathing and thinking positive thoughts.

fuck you very much 105 drivers. i hope you all get the runs.

WANTED: Good Friends

Categories: family, friends » jamie @ 10:22 am

ive always been a believer in quality over quantity. having a lot of friends has never been my domain, regardless of knowing a lot of individuals, few i extend the classification of “friend” much less “good friend”.

more and more i realize these “good friends” i have i barely ever spend time with. either due to physical distance or time, i start to wonder what a good friend really is. i have acquaintances who i would casually call “friend” out of respect, but they know nothing about me or what they do know is very minute and superficial. i have acquaintances i see more than i do my “friends”, but there is nothing about them that makes me feel the same camaraderie as i do with others.

then there are those who were good friends and have simply retained that classification just because of time, history and loyalty. I start to wonder if they even consider me a friend or if ive just become an acquaintance or someone from their past.

though i have learned that good friends in my past remain ppl i care for, they don’t really contribute to my life much these days. i miss having a good handful of really good friends i could count on and just spend time with as i did in the past. i miss my sister.

perhaps the hardest reality was that for so long, my close circle of friends i left back home in Hawaii have become.. strangers. while i tried several times to reach out and spend time with them, i found they were less than interested.

permanence is an illusion. so are the ties that bind.

christian’s family had campground reservations at san elijo state beach in north county san diego. he shoo’d his parents away and on sunday-monday the kids were able to take over.

i mean.. its not really camping in that, on one side of a cliff and a short staircase were on front beach property, and on the other side of us is the city of encinitas, and the tracks amtrak trains. but HEY! I’m a city girl and this is as outdoors as i need to get.

it was awesome! chad, nina and will showed up from the la crew, and we hooked up with christian, a few of his co workers and his adorable sisters julie, liz, and emma and their awesome friends.

as of right now there is red tide a form of agal bloom all along so-cali coast. in the daytime the water looks like a reddish brown yohoo drink (thanks brandon for the perfect description), however in the evening.. its a whole different story.

if you have ever seen blue lagoon, and they swim in the ocean at night, you’ll remember the blue iridescent glow. well thats exactly what red tide looks like at night. with every crashing wave, all that use to be white, is a beautiful vibrant glowing blue. when you walk along the sand and drag your feet or kick it, it glows, streaks, sparks the same amazing color.

before red tide is over, i encourage any of you near a beach experiencing the phenomenon, go to the beach at night and watch the natural amazing glow show. i only wish i had pictures but they wouldn’t come out at all.

however, I’m now sunburned on my shoulders and back and it hurts! and joel has lobster legs hehe. the sun and i don’t have a very healthy relationship! >_<

car-ismatic galore!!

Categories: car, geek » jamie @ 6:37 pm

the exterior transformation of my car is still yet to take place. i ordered Volk Racing TE37 16″ White from Upgrade Motoring. Thanks to Glenn of Upgrade Motoring for all his help and time, these guys are pretty cool and I recommend them if you’re looking for Rays wheels at a great price.

Because of the size/color/lug count, the wheel is not held in stock locally and had to be special ordered from the motherland. It should be about 30 more days before they get here! I haven’t picked a final tire to go with it just yet but Glenn gave me a list of what he recommends. I still haven’t decided between a brembo big brake kit 16″ (they’re the only ppl who offer 16″ big brake kit upgrades), or just painting my calipers red and upgrading my pads and lines and rotors independently.

Thankfully, my JDM ITR optional side skirts and rear valances have arrived and are in good shape.

** this is not my car, im merely showing a shot of what the side skirts look like on my car

** this is not my car, im merely showing a shot of what the rear valances look like on my car

I am still waiting to hear back from Password JDM regarding my JDM ITR front end conversion w/HID. The last time I spoke to them they informed me the cargo was being held at the ports by custom and they have no definite ETA but to keep checking back.

I still need to get a new wing and side mirrors as my driver side mirror was molested and horrifically tackled to the floor by a homeless bicyclist. In the meantime I need to start finding out which shops I want to get estimates from. I’m probably going to be without my car from about 3 weeks to a month :( . I will be having the front end conversion body work done, shaved doors, swapping of my stock to itr wing, adding side and rear skirts, installing new functional side mirrors, then a beautiful paint job in championship white! yes thats right, honda’s very own racing white! weeeee!

This will pretty much be the last of my exterior changes to the cars. the interior changes i am going to be implemented are changing to a short shifter with JDM ITR shift boot and shift knob (still debating if i wanna spend 200 on an authentic titanium oem knob, or 30 for an aluminum replica or go with a different brand). i am still debating between JDM ITR Recaro red seats or just purchasing new aftermarket sparco seats. I am also still deciding which pedals I want to go with. Possibly two-tone coloring the interior with red suede as well…

This year is pretty much going to end with just cosmetic and suspension changes. Next year i’ll start with engine drive power mods. I’m sure my “plans” will change as they keep doing from month to month. See you on the streets and tracks!
